A Totem for Hull: The Humber Powerhouse
Jason Wilsher-Mills

In 2019, disabled artist Jason Wilsher-Mills worked with a range of disability groups and organisations in Hull to input into his design for an interactive sculpture for the University of Hull campus, which became A Totem for Hull: The Humber Powerhouse.

Jason says of the sculpture: “The surface of the sculpture is intricately decorated with brightly coloured cellular structures, which are the cause of my own disability. This along with the callipers I have taken back, so I can reclaim them as joyous symbols of my own disability. I have also included symbols of Hull, representing the groups I have work and their stories, culture & history.

This application enriches “A Totem for Hull” with an augmented reality layer that celebrates the people of Hull city past and present. The app’ can be enjoyed anywhere but ideally place the flower in front of the Totem and enjoy the lively characters associated with Hull.
